How Russian cases work
Имени́тельный · nominative — кто/что
Used for the subject of the sentence. (the subject)
Masc: consonant, Fem: -а/-я, Neut: -о/-е
Роди́тельный · genitive — кого́/чего́
Used to express possession or quantity. (possession, "of", quantity)
Masc: -а/-я, Fem: -ы/-и, Neut: -а/-я
Да́тельный · dative — кому́/чему́
Used to indicate an indirect object. (the indirect object, "to / for")
Masc: -у/-ю, Fem: -е/-и, Neut: -у/-ю
Вини́тельный · accusative — кого́/что
Used to indicate a direct object. (the direct object)
Masc: -а/-я (animate), Fem: -у/-ю, Neut: same as nominative
Твори́тельный · instrumental — кем/чем
Used to indicate means or instrument. (means, "with / by")
