How Hebrew verbs work
The 24 verbs you will use every single day โ in the three living tenses of modern Hebrew, with transliteration, audio and real practice.
Hebrew verbs feel intimidating at first, and then suddenly they don't. The secret is that almost every verb is built from a three-letter root (ืฉึนืืจึถืฉื, shoresh) poured into a fixed pattern (ืึดึผื ึฐืึธื, binyan). Learn the pattern once and you can conjugate hundreds of verbs you have never seen before. Unlike English or the Romance languages, Hebrew gets by with only three tenses โ present, past and future โ and there is no infinitive-plus-auxiliary machinery to memorise.
Two things surprise English speakers most. First, the present tense behaves like an adjective: it changes for gender and number, not for person โ the same word covers "I write / you write / he writes" as long as the speaker is masculine singular. Second, the past and future encode the person inside the verb through endings and prefixes, so the pronoun is often optional. Master those two ideas and the tables below stop being lists to cram and become patterns you can feel.
Everything here is arranged for that. Read the short guide to roots and binyanim, skim the full tables (tap ๐ to hear each verb), then open the practice engine and drill until the forms are automatic โ mistakes come back first.
